Focuses on big-picture issues, such as structure, pacing, flow, character development, inconsistencies, plot holes, and more. Highlighting these issues will maximize your story’s impact.
A developmental edit is a good first step if your manuscript is newly written or if you’re still figuring things out.

Use the active voice. Avoid the passive voice.
The active voice strengthens your writing, adds clarity, and uses fewer words. It ensures your characters are doing things.
Passive
The milk was fried by Peter.
Active
Peter fried the milk.
(Sometimes, the passive voice will work, but it should be avoided.)
COPYEDIT
Focuses on spelling, typos, grammar, inconsistencies, and other issues related to writing mechanics. Taming those confusing commas and winking semicolons will help you tell your fantastic story right.
What you will receive:
Two versions of your manuscript—one with Microsoft Word’s Track Changes to be accepted or rejected, and another with all revisions accepted.
A copyedit may also have comments for your review.
